Silverstorm

Silverstorm_Keep.png

Silverstorm_Heraldry.pngRecently acquired by Baron Fallowdown, the renamed Thorpe and Hamlet of Silverstorm, as well as the adjacent the ancient keep has seen a colorful history. The keep itself was built atop Barutheran ruins by the Hzuulheim Clan of Dwarves over twenty-seven centuries ago. Its original purpose is unclear, but its location on the Damarind Flow lends to the theory that it was a dwarven trading outpost. Little clues from that era remain to the current day. Over the centuries the region has been home to brutes, bandits, smugglers, and others. The Dwarven keep has outlived them all. Most recently the small village served as a home for brutes who were driven across the river by Fallowdown Knights. Those particular brutes had built a Dugout Workshop along the Silver Creek, hence a majority of them escaped in the vessels well before the raiding party arrived.

The hamlet itself is surrounded by a stout twenty-five-foot high palisade made up of two layers of closely set peeled logs with a five-foot-wide interior wall walk. Each of the large, round, thatched huts, when repaired. will be home to an extended family of around twenty individuals and their prized animals. The reeve will occupy the largest hut (3) at the very top of the hill once one is assigned and the Lord and his companions move from the Headman’s House to the keep.

Once the hamlet is fully populated, the Lord should be able to muster about forty warriors (hunters), with another forty militia, suitable for defense only. The Thorpe’s full strength, including allies, should peak at several hundred warriors.

Government

Jason_Stormhouse1.jpg Lord Jason Stormhouse has recently been given this newly-discovered keep and the surrounding land south of Silvercreek to within a league of the village currently known as Winimar, a former Rover barbarian village. Lord Jason has been granted a small stipend with which to staff and maintain the keep, hamlet, and surrounding woodlands. He is as of yet unmarried and is likely to remain so given the strenuous duties tasked him, as well as his removal from civilization. Baron Fallowdown has also assigned a small group loyal to the Barony to aid and assist Lord Jason in clearing the region and making it safe for the hamlet’s inhabitants.

Economics

Silverstorm’s isolation currently inhibits economic growth. Once roads are cleared and the region is settled the prospects have nowhere to go but up. Settling this once brute-infested land is one of Lord Jason’s (and company) primary tasks. As the hamlet is along the banks of the Damarind Flow, fishing and water transportation will be key elements, as well as timber from The Darkwood. Who can tell what other discoveries the Lord and his vassals will find in the coming months?

Major Exports of Silverstorm

Currently none.

Religion

Silverstorm Keep houses a small chapel, and the baron sent the Pantheist Procta Rys Moran to act as the hamlet’s spiritual advisor.

Locations in Silverstorm

1 SILVERSTORM KEEP
Interior plans of the keep below.
Although not entirely in shambles, this century old, stone fort had been repurposed into a smuggler’s hideaway before falling to brutes two decades ago. It is in poor condition, abandoned and abused over the centuries. It has a tower on the brink of collapse, a flooded basement as well as a ruined stable. Much work needs to be put into this old keep to make it defensible and inhabitable.

2 CORRAL
Size: 7
The large log palisade is used to keep all of the hamlet’s animals. The Lord’s horses are currently kept here till the Keep’s stables are rebuilt. Sheep, goats, and pigs are important sources of food.

3 THE HEADMAN’S HOUSE
Size: 5
This large wattle and daub one-room building currently houses Lord Jason and his companions.

4 THE MILL SITE
Size: 3
Proposed site for the new mill.

Silverstorm Keep

1 Front Gate
The keep’s main entrance features a two-story gatehouse attached to a round tower. Arrow slits look out onto the ground outside the gate. The gate itself is a double door of thick timbers reinforced by iron bands.

2 Gatehouse
The gates open to a thirty-foot passage. A portcullis blocks the far end of the passage, but you can see the castle yard on the other side. An arrow slit in the southern wall of the passage provides defenders a way to fire on intruders who get this far.
