Village of Gerretts Rest
Originally called Copperton, for the copper mine nearby, was re-named Garrett’s Rest for Sir Sabastien Gerrett, a knight who died defending the water well when brutes tried to poison it. There is a statue to his honor which guards the well to this day.
A popular belief is that if the horse is rampant (both front legs in the air), the rider died in battle; one front leg up means the rider was wounded in battle or died of battle wounds; and if all four hooves are on the ground, the rider died outside battle.
