Shimmering Kingdoms FATE
Barrowlings are the stout cousins of the stunts. They make their homes in burrows underground, or in caves and mines. They live almost exclusively with their own kind, and are slightly distrustful of humans and the other halfling races. Barrowlings are very fond of dwarves and have an appreciation for the dwarven skills and crafts. Even though distrustful, they have a strict sense of right and wrong and are quite charitable with their time and efforts. They will go out of their way to help those in need unless it means risking their wealth. They will then find some other way to help, because Barrowlings are instinctively greedy when it comes to gems and precious metals. They are hoarders, and construct complicated and devious methods for storing and protecting their wealth. Barrowlings, being mistrustful to begin with, are of a common belief that every other creature is after their horde, and it is their duty in keeping others from it. They do not, however, seek to rob another’s horde. That would be dishonest and wrong, and they themselves would then sink to the level of those that are proven dishonorable. They would rather discover or earn riches on their own merit. To that end, many Barrowlings leave their burrow to seek their fortune in the vast world, with the hopes of hitting it big and retiring young. Barrowlings are stout, surefooted, and determined. Unlike other halflings, the males regularly sport facial hair and are quite proud of their beards.
